Route Details

It's one from the Biv archives this week, heading back to the Bull Ring (see location) and the rugged trails between Flagstaff and Swampy! Starting off down the road towards Whare Flat, we'll take a right onto Rollinsons Road, then again onto Smithy's Track, before plummeting down the perfectly named Steep Track to the Lake Whare Loop. After a gentle jog around a section of the Loop Track, we connect with Swine Spur Track. Here begins the major climb of this outing. At times boggy and most likely muddy, we'll grind our way up to Swampy Summit, emerging beside the navigation beacon just shy of the summit. It would, of course, be rude to stop short, so we'll keep going the short distance to the actual top Turning around, we'll retrace our steps along the road, and onwards along the well-trodden Swampy Ridge track and the fire break road back to the Bull Ring It will be a longer outing this week, somewhere in the vicinity of 13.8 km with around 700 metres of ascending. The forecast isn't looking amazing, and the area is prone to cold winds, so please dress warmly (a seam-sealed jacket wouldn't go amiss). Headlamps are essential. See you there!
