Post Pigs Perambulation

Graeme is in the lead this week, and he's got a cracker of a route planned for us: Meeting at the Silverstream/Whakaehu car park at the corner of Silverstream Valley Road and Flagstaff/Whare Flat Road, we’ll head off along Raceman’s Track before cutting up onto Tunnel Track, along past or, preferably, through the tunnel, then on to McRaes Weir track and the short, sharp climb to join Steve Amies. From there, we’ll follow the ridge line up Steve Amies to meet Little Coal Creek track, with a nice descent and a glimpse of the occasional view before turning down North Coal Creek track for a scramble downhill back to Racemans for the final few k’s back to the cars. Some good grip would be worthwhile as, although it’s pretty dry, both the climb up from McRaes to St Amies and the descent down North Coal Creek are quite steep! All up, it should be around 13km with 500m of vert. The weather it looking perfect but, as always, come prepared. Transport requests and offers in the comments. See you there!
