Areas & Points of Interest
This week we're in search of a view worthy of the extra evening daylight we now have, and the Mihiwaka area fits that need perfectly! Starting from the Port Chalmers Gold Club on Reservoir Road in Sawyers Bay, we'll head uphill into the forestry block for the grunty climb up to Cedar Farm, and onward to the summit of Mihiwaka. It's a perpetually boggy track, so don't wear your good shoes! Retracing our steps back down, we'll cross over the forestry road and head for the top Mt Kettle, before a quick circuit of the reservoir and the return leg back to the carpark. It's shorter in distance this week, at around 9-10 km along with 500-600 m of vert. Headlamps shouldn't be needed (🙌!!) but it wouldn't hurt to carry one just in case for the final descent back through the forest. Otherwise, the weather looks fine but there's a chance of strong NW winds - we'll keep an eye on the forecast over the next few days. See you there!
