On the (de)fence

We're heading a bit further out of town for this one. Meeting at the start of the Orokonui Lagoon Walk (see location) on Doctors Point Road, we'll head along Doctors Point Road for a few km before veering to the right to begin our climb - eventually reaching the Orononui fenceline. Keeping our eyes peeled, we'll follow the fence to the top, then down the other side to the lagoon. It's a lovely run alongside the water back to the start point. The route has a bit of everything - tarmac, single track and unsealed road. It is approx. 13.8km and some 680 metres of total ascent. The weather forecast looks a little iffy, so please come prepared. Headlamps are essential. It's a bit of a longer drive to the start point, so please allow extra travel time.
