Trails
This week we return to the area surrounding Mihiwaka. So, there might be a bit of mud and given the recent windy weather, possibly a few fallen trees to negotiate? We’ll meet at the Port Chalmers Golf Club (Reservoir Road, Sawyers Bay) and head up towards Cedar Farm Reservoir. Our destination is Mount Kettle. It’s a fun route, which definitely resembles a gentle scramble at times both ascending and descending the peak. On descent, we will head out to Mount Cargill Road, where we “enjoy” 4 km of tarmac to the top of Grahams Bush Walkway. Using this track we descend back to Sawyers Bay for a final stretch on tarmac back to the waiting cars. It’s surprisingly lengthy this route at approx. 13km and some 670 odd metres of total ascent. Come prepared as always. The final descent does involve a considerable time in bush as daylight fades, so packing the headlamp might still be advisable. See you there.
