Route Details

The last winter run of 2023! However, let's be honest, it's Dunedin and it's not the end of wintery weather. We had a reminder of mud, wonderful mud last week, so I think it's important that we head straight back out into it! We will meet at the Bull Ring car park (see location). The run is in two chapters, first a large amount of forestry/unsealed road separated by some single track. There'll be a bit of the muddy stuff, but it really comes to the fore in the final part. Ascending off the roads near the Flagstaff-Whare Flat/Rollinsons Road junction we'll connect Smithy's, Possum Busters and MacQuilkans Tracks to emerge onto the Swampy Summit Track. Not done with the climbing we'll head up and over Flagstaff and back to the cars. There is around 625 metres of total ascent in this one, over approximately 14.5 km. Given the snow and wet of the weekend there should be some 'fun times' to be had. However, the forecast this week looks near perfect for late winter, so perhaps it won't be too bad? Headlamps are still essential as the evening light diminishes. See you there.
