Trails
It's time to up the total ascent! This week we will start at the base of the Pineapple Track (see location). Heading up McGouns Track, we will swing onto the old Pineapple Track before rejoining the current version near the top. We'll then head north along the Swampy Summit Track to the junction with McQuilkans Track, where we head down to the junction with Possum Busters. The route then turns onto Smithys Track with its ever present mud and bog! Smithys spits us out onto Rollinsons Road within metres of its junction with Flagstaff-Whare Flat Road. We turn left and head up, but only as far as the junction with Jim Freeman Track. It is then a solid climb through bush back to the Firebreak Track. Reaching the top once more we'll head around to the top of the Pineapple Track and plummet back down to the cars. Plenty to sink the teeth into on this one. A good familiarity with trails and good fitness levels required. There are two decent ascents and descents and, probably, somewhere in the vicintiy of 850 metres ascent throughout. The estimated distance is 14km. Headlamps essential and extra layers strongly advised as winter seems to be knocking on the door.
