Areas & Points of Interest
It's the last Biv run before the jolly red fella makes an appearance and its time to create some space for the ritual over-eating exercise that occurs but once-a-year. Predictably the forecast looks wet, so add a soaking and mud to the list for this week’s intended learning outcomes! Come prepared with layers, as there are a few exposed sections out of cover on this route. We'll meet at the Pineapple Track car park (see location) and head off in search of the "Alternative Davies Track" route. The route is a wonderful single track through bush, fuchsia forest, flax and low tussock scrub to reach Flagstaff. Descending from Flagstaff to the Bull Ring we enjoy more downhill along Flagstaff-Whare Flat Road. On reaching the Jim Freeman Track entrance we head along Possum Busters to the junction with McQuilkans Track. This signals the second uphill shunt for the evening. Initially this track negotiates a few muddy sections before a firm, single track ascent to Swampy Summit Track. From this junction, it is an easy jog along to and down the Pineapple Track back to our cars. An estimated distance of 12-13 km and some 700 metres of total ascent should have cleared out some room for Christmas dinner. Enjoy!
