Areas & Points of Interest
The Greenacres-Camp circuit has been a Bivouac favourite since we were introduced to it in 2019. This outing continues our homage to "Cara's Run" but includes a little variation to increase the distance. This circuit has been popular in the past and has courted criticism regarding a lack of public health measures - so in that regard, please stay away if you have cough/cold/flu-like illness or have been in an area with COVID-19 within the past 14 days. Meet at Macandrew Bay, at the intersection of Greenacres Street and Portobello Road (see location). From there we head out along the cycle path to McTaggart Street, Company Bay. Climbing up the street and through the farmland to Camp Street we'll then head back down Camp Street to the cycle path once more. Continuing out on Portobello Road for a further 1.5 km, we then turn up Bacon Street. Those of you who attended last week's run will recognize this location. Heading up Bacon Track we will swerve right and take the fork leading up through farmland towards Hunter's House. The climb continues as we swing right onto the remaining part of the Smith-Larnach Track we have yet to cover. Nearing the top, the track parallels Camp Road behind Larnach Castle before joining the former. Emerging onto Camp Road, we have a relatively flat section back past the Castle and along Camp Road/Highcliff Road to the top of the Greenacres Track. The remaining 2.5 km is a descent down single-track, unsealed road and then sealed road back to the cars. This week we are covering approx. 13.5 km and 600 metres of total ascent. It looks to be fine (before the wet of the coming weekend!), but no doubt that nor'easter will be about to cool us off. See you there.
