Route Details

Bivouac Trail Runners has been absent of late from the majestic Flagstaff, so it is time to rectify this glaring omission. We'll meet at the base of the Pineapple Track. From there we'll head up the forestry road to Davies Track. Recent reconnaissance confirms a little bit of mud, imposing flax and regrowth from the fire have started to return this track to its previous "glory". Emerging onto the track to Flagstaff we'll head over the top and down to the Bull Ring car park. Continuing the downward theme, we turn right down Flagstaff-Whare Flat Road until the start of the Jim Freeman Track. Here we'll duck into the bush and, eventually, pick-up Possum Busters track. The final climb of this outing is up McQuilkans Track to the Swampy Ridge Track. McQuilkans doesn't disappoint with a sustained climb, a bit of bog and some mud! It is then a mere matter of a trot along the ridge to the Pineapple Track and down to the cars. This is a varied run with gravel road and track. An estimated distance of 13.5 km and 830 metres of total ascent mean good hill fitness is a definite recommendation with this outing.
