Route Details

We tried this loop last year on the verge of an orange weather warning. Possibly not the smartest decision! We also have some unfinished business with this loop, as we lost the track and had to turn back (again, possibly not the best advertisement for the Biv Runners 😆) Meeting at Leith Saddle at the top of the Northern Motorway, we'll head down Waitati Valley Road, onto the always muddy Pipeline Track, and onwards onto Rustlers Ridge. Taking a hard right at the intersection with the Burn Track, we'll carry on northwards until reaching the Swampy Ridge Track, which is always a highlight (yeah, right) of the 3 Peaks + 1 course. From here, it's back uphill to Rollinsons Road, past the assorted radio installations and onwards to the microwave transmission tower, before the descent back to the start via the Leith Saddle Track. In total, we'll cover just under 13 km and around 565 m of climbing. The forecast looks good but come prepared as always and remember the head torch. Conditions are likely to be damp and muddy underfoot after this week's snow. Please post any transport requests in the comments. See you there! 2nd attempt at the route after last year's fail. Just as much mud but less horizontal rain 😆
