Areas & Points of Interest
This winter has been the season of mud around Ōtepoti's track and trails, so let's embrace it at its best. Meeting at the Leith Saddle carpark at the top of the Northern motorway (see location), we'll play chicken as we cross to the other side, then descend down Leith Valley Road, taking a wee detour around Sullivan's Dam, before reaching the Morrisons Burn access road. Here, the climb begins, taking in the famous mud of the 3 Peaks chute (uphill, thankfully), then carrying on towards Swampy and the microwave tower. The top third of the Leith Saddle Track should continue the muddy theme, so care is required before hitting the beautiful benched track back to the start. The estimated distance is around 11.5 km, with approximately 525 metres of ascent. Headlamps are essential, extra layers advisable. Transport requests and offers in comments. See you there!
Run report by Adam
View on Strava ↗Actually, my dire predictions of the famous Morrisons mud were quite unfounded. Lots of frost on Leith Valley Road and Powerline, with a couple of nicelyfrozen puddles up top
