Areas & Points of Interest
We're heading a bit further out of town for this one. Meeting at the start of the Orokonui Lagoon Walk (see location) on Doctors Point Road, we'll head along Doctors Point Road for a few km before veering to the right to begin our climb - eventually reaching the Orononui fenceline. Keeping our eyes peeled, we'll follow the fence to the top, then down the other side to the lagoon. It's a lovely run alongside the water back to the start point. The route has a bit of everything - tarmac, single track and unsealed road. It is approx. 13.8km and some 680 metres of total ascent. Headlamps are essential. The forecast is looking good, but — as always — please come prepared. It's a bit of a longer drive to the start point, so please allow extra travel time. If you aren't sure you'll make it by six, please respond with going and we can wait a few minutes longer. Please post any transport offers and requests in the comments. See you there!

View on Strava ↗Quite literally, as it turns out with a rat spotted on the fence. Bit of an "accidental" detour let us take in the stunning view from Mopanui — of cloud. A local Ruru serenaded us as we finished along the estuary track
