Areas & Points of Interest
A few regulars are out this week, so here's a self-directed run for those interested. This route traverses farmland so, unfortunately, dogs won't be able to join on this run. Meet at the bottom of Greenacres Street in Macandrew Bay (just past the shops), and at 6 o'clock head on up the street. This eventually becomes the short but steep Greenacres Track which eventually reaches Highcliff Road. Turn left along Highcliff Road (please take extreme care running on the road), then left again onto Camp Road. Keep following this until you reach the gates of Larnach Castle. Veering right, follow the Camp Track around the perimeter of the castle, pausing at the well-placed seat to take in the view over to Hereweka and up the peninsula. The camp track narrows and continues downhill through farmland, with a nice straight shot down to Broad Bay. At the end of the track (top of Camp Street), you have two options: 1. Turn left for another short run over farmland on the McTaggart Street track. Follow this all the way to Company Bay at the bottom, then turn left again for the short run back to Mac Bay, or 2. Continue straight down Camp Street, then turn left and return to Mac Bay via Te Aka Ōtakou the shared path. Option 1 is around 9.3 km, and option 2 adds roughly 1.5 km.
