Route Details

The party is over, as to lambing season closures. Thursday's forecast looks favourable for an outing on the Peninsula. We will be running across farmland laden with sheep and the odd herd of cattle, so no dogs allowed. Meet at the end of Seal Point Road (see location). We start with a rapid descent onto the beach at Sandfly Bay before turning up Morris Creek and running up Ridge Road to the junction with Sandymount Road. A short stretch on the latter, before turning onto Nyhon Track. Reaching the top, we'll plummet down through farmland to Hoopers Inlet. We then run along Hoopers Inlet Road back to Sandymount Road. It's a sustained climb up the road and a small section of track to the summit of Sandymount. All that remains is a fast descent down the sand dunes to Sandfly Bay, before a run along the beach and a final sandy ascent back to the cars. This run has a varied terrain of single-track, farmland, beach/dunes and unsealed road. Estimated distance is approx. 13.5 km with a shade over 600 m of total ascent.
