The depths of winter

The recent weather has increased the entertainment value of many of our wonderful city's tracks. But, who doesn't enjoy the downhill dance on a slippery trail? We'll meet at Smaills Beach (see location), but start out on the tarmac heading towards Tomahawk Lagoon. Connecting onto the 41-Peg track we'll ascend to the Soldiers' Monument. Hopefully there will be clear skies to accompany our climb and provide views. It is then time to hit the tarmac again along Highcliff Road to the junction with Karetai Road. There begins the wonderful descent down the road and track back to the cars. The lower half of Karetai will be slippery! Estimated distance of 11.5 km and around 450 metres of total ascent. Headlamps essential, bright reflective clothing advisable and a weather-proof jacket probably not a bad idea! See you there!
